It Takes a Town is a grass roots community movement in the Murwillumbah and Tweed region harnessing the generosity and resilience that abounded from the 2017 flood – at the time one of the worst on record.

Now the 2022 flood has devastated our town and its surrounding villages.

Unrelenting, rocketing rain savaged the Tweed River and inundated the town with unprecedented water levels. Landslides and trees tore across roads. Bridges and built structures washed away. Hundreds of homes and businesses filled over 4 metres high with water, mud, and debris. Lives and livelihoods were lost.

The road to recovery will be long, and we are urgently seeking your generosity to help us put our life and town back together again.

Donations will be used immediately to fund essential items and services listed below:
- The purchase of essential white goods - e.g. washing machines, fridges, dehumidifiers
- Essential household items - e.g. toasters and kettles
- Essential trades such as carpenters, electricians, plumbers, plasterers and tilers
- Industrial cleaners, machinery, or earthmoving services
- Mattresses, beds and manchester
- Kid’s uniforms and school needs

Who is managing the funds?

How will the funds be distributed and when?

We know this is top of mind for many donors. Our team including Carmen Stewart, CEO of It Takes a Town, are collaborating with the Murwillumbah volunteer and donations hub to oversee the distribution of funds based on those in highest need, across the entire Tweed region.

We must get families and individuals back into their homes safely as soon as possible.

The more Raffle Tickets you purchase means more entries and the funds will be so greatly appreciated and will directly impact those who need it most. On behalf of Murwillumbah and surrounding villages – thank you!

More:

It Takes a Town is a community-owned initiative operating in Murwillumbah and surrounding villages. We are here to activate a shared focus on creating more opportunities and ‘good stuff’ for children and their families. We believe that everyone has a role to play.

We’ve set a bold goal to create a culture where sharing, generosity and responsiveness to each other, is the norm. When everyone is contributing according to their abilities, resources and skills, our community becomes a richer and more connected place for us all.
